I have seen a lot of cute necklaces with the glass frames on them. They are just too cute to pass up! I had to make one for my friend and one for myself. They each say "Amie" which in french means, a "female friend." Since she loves hibiscus flowers and because she has such a big heart, I threw on some charms that seemed fitting. On the other side, I added a monogram for our first names which both start with "K."

These were so easy to make that I might have to make some more!

Handmade Ornaments with Mod Podge

This is one of my favorite times of the year as I am sure it is most of yours as well. I love the old classic Christmas songs and the hot cocoa and all the lights! This season makes you feel like a giddy little kid again. =) Here are a few ornaments I made to add to my front door garland this year. Super easy to make but a bit time consuming. Directions are at the bottom.

I did these 2 different ways.

On the first ornament, I used an old book and tore the pages into pieces and glued them on with Mod Podge Matte.

You can stamp images all over paper and then tear them into pieces and glue them on which is what I did for the snowflakes and Music note ornaments.

It is as simple as that.

Bird & Twig Wedding Programs

Here is a set of wedding programs I made for a beautiful and talented Bride. She had fall colors including, reds, deep blues, coppers and golds.

This program features copper wiring for the bird's feet and head feathers and gold embossing on the body of the bird. I chose a deep blue color for the font and the twig just added a touch of fall.

Bridal Slipper Tutorial

This is a fairly easy project to do so let's get started!

You will need:

Pair of shoes

Beads, Jewels, etc...of your choice

Felt

scissors

Glue gun/Glue sticks

E600 Glue

Arrange your assortment of beads into the design you want.

Cut a piece of felt to fit this shape and hot glue your beads to the felt.

You will then use the E600 glue to adhere them to the shoes

{I let mine set/dry for 12 hours just to be sure}.

When they are dry, you have a stylish pair of shoes to wear out!

Willy Wonka-like Mushroom Decor Tutorial

This is sort-of, kind-of a small break from all the wedding decor I have been posting. This was still for the wedding but it was for the cutely themed candy table. As you may remember from the place card post, all of the tables had a movie instead of the usual table number. The candy table was no exception and, as you may have guessed from the title of this post, the table was "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory" {only changed slightly which will be shown in a later post}.

The Bride wanted mushrooms and loli-pops and large wrapped candies. So, I did just that.

Here are the mushrooms and how to make them.

You will need the supplies below:

Stufffing

Foam Disc

Foam Cone

Fabric

Glue Gun/Sticks

Piece of paper

Spray paint or regular paint

Spray paint or hand paint the foam cones and let dry.

Cut out a circle that is about an inch smaller than your foam disc.

Cut a hole in the center of your paper and then hollow out the center of your foam disc. {Make sure the hole in your paper lines up with the hole in your foam disc}.

Set your paper aside

Place your "stuffing" between your fabric and the foam disc.

Begin gluing your fabric around the foam disc just like in the pic below.

I ended up cutting the excess material off after making sure I had enough length to glue to the disc.

You can shape the stuffing with your hand inside the open ends until you get the look you are going for.

Your mushroom should look similar to this on the bottom when it is all glued and secure.

Glue the piece of paper after lining up the holes. This will cover the bottom and make it look a bit cleaner. {Not that anyone sees this}.

Glue the ends of the cones into the hole at the bottom of the mushroom.

Fabric Flower Pomanders

It is popular to hang pomanders of fresh flowers down the aisle of a wedding ceremony. However, this particular bride was going for something a little different. I made her 8 pomanders each with about 25 handmade, fabric flowers in 5 different styles. That is 125 flowers total!! They were a lot of work, but I think they came out beautifully!

What Bride doesn't like a little bling? The Bride bought a pair of plain slippers in hopes of wearing them on her special day but felt they were missing...a whole lot! To match her vintage theme, I added pretty rhinestones atop a fabric rosette. She had aisle worthy toes that complimented her beautiful day!

Redesigned Wedding Guest Book

This guest book came to me as a plain, white book with "Guest" embossed in gold. To give it a richer look, I wrapped it in satin and adorned it with pearls, rhinestones, and champagne rosettes. I thought it would be a challenge but it was rather simple to do. I also placed one of their engagement pics on the inside {not pictured} with the date. Now her and her new husband will have a keepsake that will forever remind them of all the people who shared in their special day.

"Admit One" Place Cards

The Bride and Groom have a theater in their basement because they LOVE, LOVE, LOVE movies. So, what better way than to use movie titles for table numbers instead of the traditional table numbers?!?!

The guests "starred" in the movie where they were sitting at and Each table had a small poster of the movie {shown in a later post} on the table so they could easily locate them. It was a really cool idea and it looked amazing!

Candlestick Makeover Tutorial

I know what you are thinking. "Why is she doing a "makeover" on these candlesticks? They are already stylish." Let me tell you, it was hard!! I love these candlesticks. However, I needed some distressed/aged looking candlesticks in a much lighter color for a project that I am currently working on. To achieve this look, here is what I did in 5 easy steps: Sand, Prime, Paint, Paint, Paint.

You will need:

Candlesticks of your choice

Fine Grit Sandpaper

4 Paint Brushes

Primer

Color you want shown through the crackle

Crackle Medium

Top Color of your choice

Sand

Prime

Paint

Apply your crackling medium where you want the paint to crackle. Avoid going over an area to much.

I used "Weatherd Wood" from Michael's as my crackling medium. You have to let this dry for almost an hour.

Apply your top coat of paint. It does not have to be perfect.

**NOTE The crackling occurs very quickly so paint very quickly!**

Let dry and Viola!!

I actually went back after this photo and sandpapered a lot of the edges so more brown would show through. You will be able to see this when I post my final project. So, stay tuned! =)

Bird's Nest Platter Tutorial

You will need:

Amount of plates of your choice

Mod Podge Matte

Paint/sponge brush

Scissors

Stamp/ink or patterned paper/tissue paper of your choice

Branches (either found outside or store bought)

Moss

Hot glue gun

Unfinished wooden candlesticks

Unfinished small wooden plaque of your choice

Paint of your choice

Step 1: Paint your candlesticks & plaques to your liking. Once Dry, Glue the Candlestick to the center of the plaque.

Step 2: Trace and cut out paper. If you need to stamp it, like I did here, then you can do so.

Step 3: Mod Podge the paper to the plate as shown below.

Step 4: Glue the Candlestick to the center of the underside of your platter.

Step 5: Begin gluing branches to the underside of your platter as shown below. Break the branches to fit the size you need. **NOTE**You will want them to be slightly longer than the platter edge.

Continue Gluing the branches all the way around until yours looks similar to the pic below.

Step 6: Begin gluing branches onto the branches sticking out from the underside.

Work your way around...

...until your platter looks like the pic below.

Step 7: Begin building up your edges by continuing step 6.

When you are done, your platter should look like the 2 pics below.

Step 8: Begin gluing the moss in pizza slice forms all around the underside of the platter. **NOTE** This part is messy so make sure you do it in a place that is easy to clean up.

Your platter should now look like the pic below.

Step 9: The final step is to cover the glue from building up the branches around the platter. Take bits of moss and glue them right over the areas that have glue showing.

You have now completed your platter. Make some fun food and pile it on!!

"Love Soars" Bridal Shower Mason Jars

I love the mason jars everyone has been using. I think they scream summertime! I added a little bit of twine and cut-outs of sparrows to them. Everyone at the shower wrote their name in white so, not only would they would know what glass was theirs but, it also helped everyone with each others names. An easy way to get to know who someone is and still enjoy a nice beverage.

I made this for the "approaching quickly" bridal shower for my brother's fiance. I love wedding festivities and I love ruffles. I think they go fabulous together! Well, maybe not so much on the bridesmaid's dresses but you know what I mean.

I stitched a double sided ruffle and holders by hand (I BADLY NEED A SEWING MACHINE!!!). The burlap was done the same way I made the "Decorative Bridal Shower Frame." I can't wait to put this out to direct the guests!

Decorative Bridal Shower Frame

Here is a piece of decor I made for the bridal shower that I am throwing for my future sister-in-law. She has a necklace with the same kind of bird so I thought it would be perfect to use for the frame. This frame was super easy to make too. Directions are at the bottom.

I cut the burlap to fit the frame.

Then, I drew an image on paper and cut it out. I used the outside of the image as a template and taped it to the burlap in the position I wanted, just like in the picture below.

I painted the image and let it dry.

I removed the template once it was completely dry and placed it into the frame.

It is so easy, I might have to make another one for myself!

"Love Soars" Bridal Shower Invite

My brother is getting married in just a few months and so I, along with a few others, am hosting one of the bridal showers. I am so excited and cannot wait!

This is the invite I made and if you have been following my blog for some time you might have seen my "Love Soars" bookmark I made for his fiance a while back. It shows how I did the resist technique you see here. I also added some screen material to give it a more rustic feel. Each invite (all 27) were hand inked with the very famous Tim Holtz's distress inks along with the use of his stamps.

I am also obsessed with inserts so I added one to this invite. Fairly easy to do.

Quick Fabric Light Switch Tutorial

Other people have done them, I have done them, everyone has done them! =)

I know this is not a new thing but I still think it is a fun and easy way to add a little color to any room. Here is how you do it.

You will need:

Fabric or paper of your choice

Mod Podge (either matte or gloss)

Paint brush

Scissors

Pencil

Light switch plate

Step 1:

Trace your light switch plate.

Step 2:

Cut out what you traced. It is better to cut outside the pencil lines than to cut inside. You can always trim off the excess.

Step 3:

Place your fabric over your light switch and Mod Podge over the fabric. The Mod Podge will push through the fabric to make it stick or will dampen your paper to make it stick.

If you prefer to apply the Mod Podge to the light switch and then apply your fabric, that is fine too. I prefer the outside so that I can wipe off smudge marks.

Step 4:

Once dry, you can trim off the edges and install it to your wall.

Now you have a little splash of color in your room!

Our 4 Year Anniversary

Four years ago, today, my husband and I said "I Do." It is still the best day of my life and I can't believe where the time has gone. We have both accomplished so much since that day. I love remembering his face on our wedding day. He was so serious and was trying not to cry. I couldn't stop smiling. He was so sweet and sincere. What a magical day.

My husband has a weird obsession with car washes. So, yes, we went through a car wash on our first day of marriage! We started out squeaky clean, I guess. =)

Floss Threaded Garland

Because I had to bring the party boy to the surprise, I wasn't able to get all the pictures that I wanted. Here is my pile of floss threaded garland after the party! When this stuff gets tangled, it's over! There is no untangling this mess! At least it's a pretty pile. =)

This is what it looked like before the party. Nice and garland-like. The above picture...not so much. This was a great party filler. It hung behind the candy bar, on the candy bar and on the display table. We also hung it in the center of the room around a pillar. I think I may have found my new obsession!

I made 12 centerpieces for each table. All of the centerpieces featured a different dental comics in the frame which made it fun for people to go around to each table and read them all as well as mingle and meet new people.

This picture was taken right after decorating so the toppers weren't in the cupcakes yet. =(

There was a full sit down meal including Lino's amazing house salad, pasta and of course spumoni. Also, there were 2 pizza bars on each side of the venue. I think everyone ate very well! The food was great!

Table Runner & Matching Display Boxes

I don't have a sewing machine...yet. So I must make do with what I have. A glue gun! I cut the size of the table runner and then lined the sides with ribbon. It worked perfectly!

A little something was added to the table runner so the surprise wouldn't be spoiled. So, check out the next post to see what it is.

I also cut and Mod Podged 2 boxes with the same fabric. I then lined the box lid with ribbon and viola! Display boxes.

The table runner ribbon at the bottom matches the congratulations banner that will be in the next post.

Surprise Dental Graduation Party - The Story

I have been waiting FOREVER to show you all what I will be posting very soon. As you all know, my husband just graduated dental school. He didn't have an undergrad graduation party so I decided to do a surprise graduation party for him when he received his doctorate. He worked so hard to achieve this great accomplishment and I wanted to do something awesome to show him how proud I am of him. I started this project in February of 2011. My husband is very nosy and asks a lot of random questions. I knew this was going to be difficult to pull off. I can't even buy him a birthday or Christmas gift without him knowing...he is no fun!!

So, I went into cahoots with my mother-in law and she had a great idea of how to elude him. We disguised the party as a sweet-sixteen birthday party in July for a friend of hers. I told my husband that I was doing this sweet-sixteen party for cost of materials because it was his mom's good friend. Almost all purchases were made by his mother. He took the bait and we ran with it. I made everything, for the most part, right in front of him. I even showed him some stuff and asked his opinion. He of course would say things along the lines of, "Yeah, looks good." I was dying inside of laughter.

We deemed the week before his party the "Week of Lies" otherwise known as WOL. I even had to break into my own house with my mother-in-law to get stuff while he was gone (we only have one car and he had dropped me off at his parent's house that same morning). I ended up pulling one of the curtain rods out of the wall on accident while climbing in...oops! How on earth could I explain that if I wasn't even at home?!? As soon as he and I got home that evening, I pretended to trip and fall towards the window, thereby grabbing the curtain and pulling it out of the wall. I could not believe that he bought it! But who cares, he did!

It is so extremely hard to lie. I was exhausted!

It was a lot of work putting it all together but it was also a lot of fun!

One of my friend's and her husband are expecting their first child. They are having a baby girl and her baby shower was this weekend. It was the first time seeing her since we have moved back home. The shower was adorable and so was the mother-to-be! The invite said to bring a plain, white onesie or bib to decorate. Isn't that a cute idea?!? I went equipped with my glue gun and pre-made fabric flowers! I am crazy, I know. =)

Painted Flower Pot

We are finally settled in...sort of. =)

It has been a while since my last post and, as you can see, this is nothing special. However, I have been so busy with some other big projects that I needed a small project to do. This was perfect! The recent storm we had blew over my last painted flower pot and it shattered. My poor little flowers. =(

So...

What a great excuse to get out in this (finally) beautiful weather and enjoy some sun and some paint!!! I just used acrylic paint and then sealed it with some amazing concoction of glue everyone likes to call Mod Podge (matte)! I just hope my little flowers perk up soon!

Our New Home!

Another chapter of our lives is coming to and end this Saturday, May 7, 2011. My husband is graduating from University of Illinois at Chicago College of Dentistry!! This has been a long time coming! We are moving this weekend after graduation (if the house is ready; I pray the house will be ready) close to our hometown. We did not want to be pressured into buying a home just because we had to be back in the area and working. So, we decided to rent a little while longer.Within the next year or so, we hope to buy a home of our very own.

Currently, we are living in a tiny one bedroom apartment. It is, at the moment, packed to the ceiling with boxes. Sitting on the couch one night, we said to each other, "How on earth did we fit all of this stuff in here?" That question remains unanswered.

We found a 3bedroom, 2bath & 3car garage that is new construction. That is amazing to be renting a home no one has ever lived in! I am ecstatic about having a garage! I will finally have my own crafting room and my husband will finally have his own fishing storage.

Double Running Stitch Fabric Flower Tutorial

I love when a sudden idea hits me and then I am able to put it into use. I love all the fabric flowers everyone makes but wanted to come up with one of my very own. I love to do running "stitch & scrunch" flowers but wanted one that had petal shapes too. Here is my tutorial on how to do a double running stitch fabric flower.

You will need:

Material of your choice

Scissors

2 Needles (both threaded)

Hot Glue Gun

Step 1: Cut a piece of material to your thickness. The thicker = the bigger.

Step 2: Fold the material in half as shown below.

Step 3: Do a running stitch to attach the open ends but do not scrunch them. Make sure you leave the thread long enough so it does not come undone.

Step 4: Starting about an inch (your preference; could be shorter could be longer depending on length of your material) from the end of your material, make a running stitch vertically.

Step 5: Then, make a continuous running stitch back down the way you came.

Step 6: Scrunch the material just like the pic below and tie off your knot.

Step 7: Work your way down the material until your strip of fabric looks like the pic below.

Step 8: Form it in a circular fashion until the open ends of the fabric meet. Do the same double running stitch to close the ends, scrunch it and tie off your knot.

Your flower should look something like the flower below. You can make your petals concave or convex. It is your choice.

Now your flower is ready to be adorned!!

Tassel Decor Tutorial

Here is how to make a Tassel.

You will need:

Ribbon of your choice

Styrofoam Ball size of your choice (Mine are 2 1/2")

Scissors

Acrylic Paint of your choice

Paint Brush

Hot glue gun/sticks

1 Toothpick

Tulle

Needle & Thread to match your tulle

A topper of your choice

Drill with small bit

Tape measurer or a ruler

Pencil

Painters Tape

Lighter, candle or embossing gun

Step 1: Cut the Styrofoam ball in half.

Step 2: Place tooth pick in center of Styrofoam, on the flat side. Paint the flat side first and then hold toothpick while you paint the top side.

Step 3: While the paint is drying, cut short, medium & long strips of ribbon. (About 22 strips for each size)

You can cut some or all of the ends to add a little extra style.

Step 4: Start gluing the the ends of the long strips onto the Styrofoam after the paint has dried.

Step 5: You will then need to glue the strip down the side of the Styrofoam as shown in the picture below.

Work your way around until all of the long strips have been glued.

Step 5: Do the same with the medium sized strips but make sure that you DON'T glue them down the side like you did for the large strips. Just glue the ends.

Step 6: Glue the small sized strips in half and work your way around the top portion of the Styrofoam like in the picture below.

Step 7: Grab a few strips of tulle and sew a running stitch down one side. Gather it so that it looks like the picture below.

Step 8: Glue the sides together so that the tulle takes on a circular shape. (The Glue will be covered by your topper).

Step 9: Glue the tulle to the top.

Step 10: Place a piece of painters tape on your topper. Measure the center of your topper and make a dot with a pencil.

Step 11: Line up your ruler in the other direction with the dot you just made. Make another dot. This dot will be your center point.

Step 12: Drill a hole at your center point.

Step 13: Thread some ribbon through the hole.

Step 14: Place a pencil through the ribbon loops to keep it from pulling through while you even the ends and tie the knots.

Step 15: Cut off the ends of the frayed ribbon and singe the ends together with a flame or embossing gun.

Step 16: Glue your topper onto the tulle and...

VIOLA!

Birthday Hat - My dad's 50th!

Today was my dad's 50th birthday. I am so happy that I was able to spend they day with him and celebrate. My mom and dad were parents when they needed to be and now they play a different role. They are 2 of my closest friends. They have taught me everything I know and have sacrificed everything for my brother and me. I have my dad's humor, knees, nose, and feet. So many inside jokes. I was never a "daddy, can I have your credit card?" daughter. I was the cuddle up next to him and watch an old movie, begging for bedtime stories about when he was a kid, and a "daddy, I love you" daughter. As I sit here with tears in my eyes, I am so thankful to have him in my life.

Here is the hat I made him for his special day. I knew that no matter what, even if I have to glue it to his head, he was going to wear this hat with a smile. =)

I was browsing through one of my favorite stores the other day. It is one of those stores where you go in with a list and just get completely lost in it. I was inspired by a decorative tassel. I have a very simple rule when I shop/browse in stores like this and it is as follows: If I can make it myself, I won't by it. I stumbled upon this adorable decorative tassel and after looking at it for a moment, I decided I could make this myself! So, I purchased the supplies and went home and made one for my future craft room door. We are getting ready to move in a month and I just can't wait to hang it up!! I will finally have my own craft room!!! WOOHOO!

Anthropologie Inspired Push Pin Tutorial

Want to learn how to make these super cute, super easy push pins? Great! You're in the right place.

Let's get started...

Pin It

Supplies:

Scissors

Fabric strip measured at your preference (This strip is measure at 1 3/4" X 8")

Thumb Tack

Needle & Thread

Felt Circle

Gem/s to adorn center

Glue Gun (if you are like me and hate tying teeny-tiny knots ;) )

Step 1: Fold Strip of fabric in half.

Step 2: From the underside, begin threading along the open edges.

Step 3: If you are opting for my glue gun method, leave just a little tail and glue down.

Step 4: Thread a running stitch along the edge of the fabric (Sorry it is a little hard to see).

Make sure you end up on the underside of the fabric just like the beginning.

Step 5: Scrunch fabric down as shown in the picture below.

Step 6: Again, glue down end of thread and snip off the access.

Step 7: You should now have both ends with the hot glue facing up.

Step 8: Pinch ends together so the glued sides are on the outside.

Step 9: Begin another running stitch starting at the outside of the petals and work your way toward the center. Again, hot glue tail end of thread.

(It will be slightly more difficult to get needle through the glue toward the middle so, becareful).

I highlighted the thread in red.

Step 10: When done, glue and cut the end of the thread.

Step 11: Flip flower over and adorn center with desired decor.

Step 12: Glue thumb tack to underside of flower with glue gun.

Step 13: Apply hot glue to one side of felt and then place on underside of flower. The thumb tack will poke through.

TA-DA!!

Now showcase your new push pin! You can make magnets, embellishments, and anything else you can think up.

Minnie Mouse is a popular gal these days! I guess some things never change. I remember my Minnie Mouse themed birthday party. My brother and I both have birthdays in July so we always had to split the cake. Half his theme and half mine. Ah, the memories.

Back to why your here. I made this cake topper for a little ones 1st birthday. Her cake will look like Minnie Mouse's body and the topper will of course be her head. So cute. Sometimes I wonder how cakes ever get eaten when they are too cute!

Anthropologie Inspired Fabric Flower Push Pins

I know it has been a little while since my last post. My husband is graduating from dental school this coming May and then we are moving back to our home town. May is a huge month for us. It's the month where a new chapter of our lives begin. So proud of my hubby!

I have also been super busy with some BIG projects that I just cannot wait to blog about. I won't be able to share any sneak peaks, unfortunately, until sometime this summer. =( I also have a project that I am working on that I will launch later this year. Rest assured, I am working hard. I love being busy with crafty things!!

I received an order similar to the Anthropologie push pins. They were on back order so she asked me if I could make them. I have dabbled in push pins before and these were just too cute to pass up. She ordered them as a gift for a co-worker. She will be one stylish co-worker!

These would be so adorable holding up a note or pictures in an office or even at home. I will be posting a tutorial at some point in the near future. I have included close-ups of the push-pins. I had to ship them out today after I finished them and didn't realize some of the pics have strings on them...ah well. Life "pushes" on. Okay, I will stop with the lame puns lol.

Fishing Gift Card Holder Tutorial

I will be showing you how I made the Fishing Gift Card Holder. I will also show you how I made the waves that hold the gift card in place.
So let's get started!!

Supplies

To make the waves:
"Life is a Beach" Cricut Cartridge
Distress Inks: Broken China, Weathered Wood, Shabby Shutters, Forest Moss
Ink Applicators
Embossing Machine
Embossing Folders of your choice ( I used D'Vine Swirls and Swiss Dots from Cuttlebug)
Adhesive

To make the gift card:
Paper Measuring 4 X 6 1/4
Scorer & Scoreboard
Paper Distresser
Distress Inks:
Peeled Paint, Forest Moss, Crushed Olive, Walnut Stain, Stormy Sky, & Faded Jeans
Staz-On Timber Brown ink
Ink Applicators
Stamps of your choice
(I used some Tim Holtz and a wood mounted Bass stamp)
Craft Pick
Embossing Ink
Embossing Powder
Embossing Gun
Hand Sanitizer
Water
1 Brad
2 Hooks with the tip and barb cut off
(Can use another method if you prefer)
Fishing Line
(Can use a different material if you prefer)

Part 1
Making the waves

Step 1: Using the waves from the letter "R" function on Life is a Beach, you will cut 2 sections of waves; one at 2 inches and the other at 1 1/2 inches.

Step 2: Cut the 1 1/1 inch strips just like the pic below. Do not cut the larger section of waves.

Step 3: Apply the ink using an ink applicator to the waves.
First Shabby Shutters, then Weathered Wood, followed by Broken China. You can't really mess this up so that makes it stress free! ; )

Step 4: Do the same to the smaller wave sections. You will only need to do the tips so don't worry about inking the base.
Start with Broken China First then end withWeathered Wood.

Step 5: Cut the bases off of the small waves.

Step 6: Once you have your waves inked and cut, place them in embossing folders. The large wave was placed in the D'vine Swirls folder. You will need to run the large waves twice because the entire strip doesn't fit.

The small waves were placed in the Swiss Dots folder.

Step 7: Run them through your embossing machine

Step 8: More inking!! I added more Weathered Wood and (not pictured) Forest Moss on the large waves to bring out the swirls.
I also added more Weather Wood to the small waves (not pictured).

Step 9: Glue the small wave sections to the backside of the large waves as in the picture below. Make sure to place the small wave portion so that it will show when looking at it from the front (hoping that makes sense).

Viola! Waves! =)

Part 2
Making the gift card

Step 1: Apply Crushed Olive Distress Ink to entire surface of your 4 X 6 1/4 piece of paper.
Then apply Peeled Paint, Forest Moss and Stormy Sky in the same way.
Step 2: To achieve this background in the pic below sprinkle, with your hand, water and then do the same with the hand sanitizer. The hand sanitizer will pull out the Stormy Sky color.

Step 3: After the paper has dried, distress all four sides of the paper with a paper distresser.

Step 4: Apply Walnut Stain Distress Ink around all four of the edges.

Step 5: Turn your piece of paper over. Ink the top 4 inches in Stormy Sky and Faded Jeans and then ink the bottom portion that is left in Crushed Olive, Peeled Paint, and Forest Moss. Note **There will be spots from the front side but it does make for a rustic effect.

Step 6: Place Stamps, in the Staz-On Timber Brown, where you would like them.

Step 7: Stamp your image on a separate sheet of paper. Ink the image how you like then cut it out.

Step 8: Place a small hole in the fishes mouth where the hook will go.

Step 9: Cover image with embossing ink, embossing powder and then heat emboss your image. You will need to place your craft pick over the hole you just pierced to keep this hole from being closed by the embossing enamel and to hold the image in place so it does not blow away with your embossing gun.

Step 10: Ink your saying/s on the front sides of the card before scoring. Feel free to personalize what you want your gift card holder to say.

Step 11: Score the green inked portion at the 2 inch mark and score blue inked portion at the 4 1/4 inch mark.

Step 12: Pierce a hole at the top for your brad to fit and place brad (refer to last image to show placement of brad).
Step 13: Place and glue stamped image so that the underside of the brad is no longer visible (the fish is now covering the prongs of the brad).

Step 14: Tie fishing line to hook and place the hook in mouth where you pierced a hole earlier (if you would like).
Step 15: Glue down hook.

Step 16: Score a thin line at the base of the waves. This will provide a tab to glue.
Step 17: Match the scored line on your waves to the score line on the gift card and glue down. Let dry.

Step 18: Glue tiny portion of the side of the waves to act as the pocket for your gift card. Make sure your gift card can slide in and out easily.

Step 19: Double the fishing line and tie the two ends in a knot around the hook.
Step 20: Place the loop end of the fishing line around the brad, wrap fishing line around the gift card and place hook around the brad to keep it closed.

Fishing Gift Card Holder

My husband is a huge, and I mean HUGE fisherman. The amount of money my supplies cost doesn't even begin to touch the amount his cost!!! Anyway, he really wanted to thank a fishing buddy for a taking him out a few times on his boat to fish. They talk all the time on the phone. They are like 2 little girls and they crack me up. His friend recommended a restaurant to us that he just raved about. We went and now my husband is raving about it. We got his buddy a gift card to the restaurant to let him know how much my husband appreciates everything he has done for him.

This is the paper I used from my Hand sanitizer and Distress Ink Experiment if you would like to see how the background was made.

I used a small fishing hook, brad and fishing line to keep the gift card holder closed until time to open. Don't worry. I cut off the sharp end and dulled the tip out. =)

They mostly fish for Bass so I had picked up a Bass stamp awhile ago. I knew it would come in handy!

The inside before the gift card is in place.

Again, I used a hook and put it through the fish's mouth. A polymer knot was even tied to the hook with fishing line by none other than yours truly...me (I do a little fishing as well (= ).

I used some waves that I made for another project a while back that I didn't end up using. It worked out great for the pocket the gift card fits into. YAY!!

The holder with the gift card now in place.

Quick Hand Sanitizer & Distress Ink Experiment

I had a crazy thought today. While working with some distress inks, I had planned on using the water technique that Tim Holtz demonstrates here (scroll down just a bit and you will see the water in his hand). However, I glanced across my craft table and noticed some hand sanitizer...Hmmmmmmm...

I will show you pictures of distress inks used with hand sanitizer, hydrogen peroxide, and rubbing alcohol.

The pic below shows the hand sanitizer applied to the paper noted by the black arrows. The last color I used was faded jeans so I thought it was awesome that the hand sanitizer pulled out the blue.

After applying my heat embosser, the blue spots bleach out to white. If you don't heat emboss, the blue will stay

The second pic shows the reaction of distress inks with hydrogen peroxide noted by the black arrows. You can now see the "bleached out" areas where the hand sanitizer was heated.

The third pic shows the reaction of rubbing alcohol noted by the black arrows.

This pic shows the reaction of water noted by the blue arrows and the reaction of hand sanitizer noted by the black arrows. What did I use this background for? Check out the next post and you will see. Time to put all of my test tubes, flasks, and beakers away. =)

Monogram Pendant & Charm Necklace with Tutorial

I really wanted a monogram necklace but wasn't sure how to go about it. I found this bracelet on sale at HL and had an idea. I took apart the bracelet and used the circle pieces to hold the monogram. I made one for my Mom, Mother-in-Law and myself. I did them all in our favorite colors and picked out some other charms to add a little vintage style.

Monogram Pendant Tutorial

You will Need:

Glue

Clear Embossing Enamel

Embossing Gun

Embossing Ink (I used Versamark)

Necklace

Desired Charms

Circles cut to fit the inside of the pendant

Either ink and ink blenders or colored paper

Monogram (Mine were stamped)

Tweezers

Step 1: If you are not using colored paper then you will need to either leave the paper white or use your favorite color ink.

Step 2: Stamp or place your monogram in the center of the circle.

Step 3: Next, you will need to cover your circle with embossing ink.

Step 4: Shake clear embossing enamel over the circle until fully covered.

Step 5: Using tweezers, gently and carefully pick up circle and shake to remove excess embossing enamel.

Step 6: Heat emboss until your surface is clear and shiny as in the picture below.

Step 7: Once the circle has cooled, place glue on the inside of your pendant. Align your circle inside the pendant and gently apply light pressure around the edges (Some glue may pool over the edge of your circle. That is no problem, wipe it off as best as you can).

Your pendant should now look like the picture below.

Step 8: Hold your pendant with tweezers and heat the already embossed circle. This will cause the enamel to melt again.

**WARNING: THE PENDANT MAY BE VERY HOT TO THE TOUCH SO BE CAREFUL NOT TO BURN YOURSELF!!**

Step 9: Quickly apply a layer of embossing enamel over the circle. Again, shake off the excess enamel.

Step 10: Heat emboss until your monogram is clear and the enamel appears smooth.

Step 11: Repeat steps 9 & 10 until desired thickness of enamel is reached.

If the Monogram begins to rise, you may need to let the monogram cool for a bit before reheating the enamel and applying more.

As you can see in the picture below, there are bubbles of enamel on the sides. Not to worry, when you are done you can scrape the sides with your fingernail and the bubbles will be removed.

Step 12: Once you have scraped the sides to remove the bubbles, heat emboss again to remove any scratches you may have caused on the face of the monogram.

There may be voids on the sides which can add a little bit of a distressed look. But, if you want a void free surface, continue to apply the enamel.

Step 13: When you have reached the look you want, set it aside for a few minutes to cool before assembling.

Step 14: Assemble pendant onto your necklace and show it off!!!

"How to Link to a Page" Tutorial

I had a heck of a time trying to get "tabs" at the top of my page so this was as good as I could get it lol.

If you would like a custom image, follow Steps 1-6 of "How to make your own Header for Blogger on Picnik.com". Otherwise, you can find a photo or clip art if you would like.

Secondly, if you have not already made "Pages," you will need to do so.

Step 1: Start off by going to "DESIGN" and then click the "POSTING" tab at the top.

Step 2: Click "EDIT PAGES" and create new pages such as "About me," "Home," etc...Next, click "EDIT" under whichever page you would like to add an image.

Step 3: Find and click the picture icon like in the pic below. Find and choose your desired pic.

Step 4: Once it uploads, click "ADD SELECTED."

It should now appear in your text space.

Step 5: Before continuing, you need to go to the web page you want to link to and copy the URL.

Step 6: Highlight your image and click "LINK" like in the pic below.

Step 7: You will now paste the URL into the bar underneath "To what URL should this link go?"

Step 8: Click "OK."

Step 9: Click "PUBLISH PAGE."

Step 10: Go to "VIEW BLOG." The tab or page you just created should appear either below your header or to the upper right side of the page.

Step 11: Click the tab and it should bring you to your image.

Step 12: Click your image and it will bring you to the desired page you want your viewers to go to.

"How to make your own Header for Blogger on Picnik.com" Tutorial

This tutorial will be using Picnik.com to make a header for Blogger. It is free to sign up and use. And, it is extremely addicting. =)

(You can also use other websites.)

Here we go!

Step 1: Take a picture of anything that is white.

Load picture to you computer and save it where you can find it.

Step 2: Upload your picture to Picnik.com.

It should turn out like the picture below. It is grayish, but that is fine.

Step 3: Click the "CREATE" tab at the top.

Then click "EFFECTS" underneath the tabs.

Find and click "BOOST" on the left sidebar.

Your picture should whiten up.

Repeat the boost until your screen is white like the pic below.

Step 4: Once you are satisfied, find and click "Stickers."

There will be side bar to your left. If you want a background behind your text, you will need to set that up before placing your text otherwise your text will be covered by the background.

I chose this sticker for my background. There is a color tab on the upper right where you can change the color of your stickers and text.

When you click on your sticker, there is a circle at the top of your sticker's box. This will rotate your sticker. You can also change the size of the sticker by using either the color tab where it says "SIZE" or by pulling the sticker from it's corners like you would when cropping.

Step 5: I am now going to choose "TEXT" and place my text over my background.

The color and size can be changed the same way the stickers can. I am using the word "tutorials" which will be used in the "LINK" tutorial later. Place your text where you want it.

You can go back to stickers and create some more if you choose to.

If you would like something to be flipped the opposite way, find the color tab to your right and find "FLIP."

(Color Tab on upper right)

Once you click "FLIP" the sticker should be facing the way you would like.

This is my finished design.

Step 6: When you are finished, find the "SAVE & SHARE" tab.

Save it to a place you will remember. I usually save it to the same place, such as desktop, and keep the same name but add a number to it.

Step 7: You will now need to log into your Blogger account. Once you are at your dashboard, find and click "DESIGN."

Step 8: Click "EDIT" under "(HEADER)."

Step 9: You should see this window open. Click "CHOOSE FILE" and find where your picture is. When you find it choose it and it should load to this window. It is possible you may need to resize the pic before loading it here. You can also choose the option "SHRINK TO FIT" at the bottom of this window. You will need to click this before loading your pic.

Step 10: Click the option "INSTEAD OF TITLE AND DESCRIPTION." This will allow only your header to show.

Step 11: Click "SAVE."

Step 12: Click "VIEW BLOG" and check out your new header. If you do need to resize your header, it may take a few times loading it to get it how you want it. Enjoy!

Do you have a hard time picking up those teeny, tiny pieces that need to be glued down? It can be very frustrating so here is a quick tutorial on a cheap DIY "sticky tool."

Here is what you need:

Aleene's Tack-It Over & Over

Anything with a small end (I used a paintbrush)

The teeny, tiny piece you need to pick up (I have a white rhinestone)

Place a very small amount of Aleene's Tack-It Over & Over on the end of your paintbrush (r whatever you chose). Set it aside with glue side up and let it dry.

Once dry, you can now pick up the teeny tiny piece and place it where you need it. YAY!!!

When you are done with your project, you can just remove the glue and your paintbrush is back to normal.

I hope this will minimize your frustration when working with small items. =)

"Bliss" Canvas Wall Hanging

I made this for my brother and his fiancé. I believe this picture was taken the night my brother proposed. It is a perfect representation of bliss they feel. The elegrunge (elegant-grunge = I like to make up my own words haha) fits them both so well. I can't wait to give it to them!

My elegrunge flowers are made with paper and screen door material. I got my inspiration for the paper portion of the flowers from Lisa over at what-a-beautiful-mess.blogspot.com. She has amazing tutorials and is such a talented woman.

Jackson Baby Sign

I feel very blessed. A friend of mine, whom I made a sign for not too long ago, referred her friend to my blog. Her friend then ordered a baby sign for a friend of hers. So appreciative. =)

The sign was made to match the baby's nursery. The baby's bedding is designed in rocket ships and stripes. It is adorable!

Gift Card Envelope

My husband's cousin and his fiancé are getting married New Year's Eve. I checked out their registry and when I went to the store they had almost nothing. I was able to purchase a few of the items and felt I needed to include more. I went with a gift card.

While I was blog hopping the other day, I came across this neat idea of using a tag as a money holder. I found it at Studio 490. I won't be using money so I did need to alter the tag to fit the gift card. I thought it was a great idea and definitely what I needed to add a little something extra to their special day. Paper Snowflake

My husband's dental school clinic decided to do a snowflake contest. All the snowflakes are hung from the ceiling at the clinic. Naturally he asked me to help him out seeing that he is greatly talented in the paper crafting department. He was a big help....yeah right!! LOL He picked out the colors and that is about it. =) I do hope he wins.

The "R" stands for Rembrandt which is the clinic's name.

Refurbished Nook Cover

I am the proud owner of a brand new Nookcolor! I love it! I love to read and with living in a tiny apartment I don't have to worry about book storage. It now exists in the electronic form! WooHoo! It has been a while since my last post. I have been busy as I guess life sometimes gets. Anyway, I bought a Nookcolor Cover for protection. However, they didn't have a lot of styles to choose from. I bought the pink one and thought to myself, "I can just design my own." And I did!

I still don't understand why some of the pics load sideways. If anyone knows the secret please, please, please let me know. The front of my nook looked almost just like the back does except for the "nook" logo that I blinged.
